All about hyperhidrosis

It’s summertime and that means people will sweat with 250,000 sweat glands in a pair of feet. People are prone to develop significant problems most commonly people are embarrassed by the malodor as well as increased incidence in development of skin conditions such as verruca (warts) ,  athletes feet (tinea pedis), onychomycosis and infections. Hyperhidrosis Is often embarrassing condition that can be treated. Sometimes patient’s don’t like to shake peoples hands because of the moisture.

Traditional treatments look towards shoe spray powder skin roll-on’s frequent change of moisture wicking socks etc. two treatments that are FDA approved is the use of Botox for hyperhidrosis and Mira dry. Botox uses a Neuro inhibitor. Neuromuscular inhibitor by blocking the production and distribution of sweat from the sweat glands . Botox is injected into the soles of the foot. Traditionally I have used a PT nerve block or patients can tolerate the procedure with an apple chloride spray. I use a 30 gauge needle in a 3 mL syringe to deliver the boater the Botox is placed approximately every 1 to 1 1/2 cm apart in a grid like fashion. The Botox is next by five ML‘s in 100 unit file. After injection over the patients will have mild erythema a day can we do an activity immediately it takes an average of 3 to 5 days for the Botox injections to become effective and last approximately three months

Other treatments include sympathetic nerve blocks it can be performed by a neurologist pain management specialist. Mira dry is a newer modality where the treatments are applied to the axillary region of the arm.
