Laser for Fungus

Treatments for nail fungus traditionally have included topical anti fungals and oral medication. Topical creams, gels and ointments do not work. Oral medication is effective however it is not without a risk of liver disease and a high rate of recurrence.  Topical and oral medication is usually not covered by insurance.

Nail fungus is extremely difficult to treat and heal. Once a fungus is in a nail there is a high resistance to treatment. Furthermore, it often spreads to other nails. This can causes thickening, discoloration, lifting of the nail and pain. The worse it gets the harder it is to treat.

Laser treatments have provided a very positive alternative to traditional treatments. There is no risk with use of an oral medication, there is no pain and no downtime with the treatments.

During the procedure, the laser energy is delivered to the affected nail over time the fungus dies and is eliminated. The nail grows out over the course of six to nine months and is clear.   Because there is a high rate of recurrence of nail fungus a six month to one year maintenance laser touch up session is recommended.
